catladySo the other day I went on FacebookTM because social networking is the wave of the future.

On my landing page which I use to stalk people, two friends had this clip below:

2000 LWN would have invested his time in something that was seven minutes long on the Internet. 2009 LWN doesn't have the attention span, but I figured something amazingly hilarious was about to happen to this woman, so I figured I'd invest the seven minutes.  Here's a brief list of what I thought might happen:

I thought it was a lip syncing gag to watch the judges get fooled, then they'd flip out.
Perhaps the woman would sing terribly then yell at the judges with an indignant attitude, "YOU DON'T KNOW ME, YOU DON'T KNOW ME."
Maybe she would fall, split her dress, be embarrassed.

So I sat there watching, waiting for the gag to happen.  6 minutes past.....still nothing funny here.  7 minutes.....I thought it must be a last second gag......and then fade to youtube.  What the fuck is this horseshit I thought?  It's an ugly broad who can sing well.  What's the big deal?  The deal as it has been explained to me is that the crowd and judges were expecting so little, snickering and eye rolling, that it was a huge surprise she sung so well.

John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Barack Obama, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandella.  These are inspirational people.  Susan Boyle is not.  In fact, I'm sure I could craft an argument that makes Lara Flynn Boyle more inspirational than this woman.  This world is totally screwed but this unwarranted attention is out of control.  The woman even said in the beginning of the interview that she had been singing since the age of 12.  Why is this so surprising and inspirational?  Because an ugly troll of a woman can sing?  Is this what we are to believe?  Were you supposed to boo her back to her house under the bridge if she sucked?  If she were more attractive no one would waste a second of their time on this shit.  Also, since this is reality television how are we to know whether or not some of the shots at the judges and the audience were not from another competitor?  Exactly, we don't.

If that footage was all from the same shot, then I whole-heartedly applaud this Boyle woman for giving everyone in attendance a big middle finger, but by no means should she be lauded as an inspiration to us all.  She hasn't even won the competition.  But then again, OMG!!!!! Simon even gave her positive compliments.

Personally, I find this woman more inspirational.  She has a siren song, don't you agree?
