The Siena Saints.....That's all. That was your madness in the opening two rounds of the NCAA tournamnet this past weekend America. The Saints over took the Ohio State Buckeyes in Double overtime, then played Louisville tough for about 34 minutes before losing to the Cardinals.
Sure, Cleveland State beat Wake Forest, but the Deacons apparently never left Winston-Salem. And yes, Western Kentucky almost took down Gonzaga, but do you contend that Arizona (out of the PAC 10) winning games is interesting, surprising?
Some will say that this shows that parity is dead in the NCAA tournament. But that is an easy knee-jerk reaction. Look, the playing field will be evened greatly until the NCAA changes it's rule regarding NBA eligibility. Forcing kids to play basketball in college for one year will just lead to more recruiting violations, a drop in the progress report, and a lack of team chemistry for top-flight teams. So let's not say parity is dead....just yet. But I sure was bored this weekend. Sure, I only have 10 out of sixteen, but at least I took a chance. Did you have Cleveland State?
