cfootWeek one in college and pro football is a total crap shoot, and typically on the college level there are not any games of interest.  Not so this year.  There are two titillating matchups to tingle the senses and make fans and degenerate gamblers giddy with excitement.

This is our As usual I will be playing with a bank of $1,000 fake dollars for both the pros and college level to give you, the gambling public what my picks would be if I had any actual money to put on the games.

I'm going to keep this semi-short since I am still trying to put together more conference previews, then have to preview the NFL for the 20 people that read my site.  It may be devoid of humor, but cut me some slack.

As always, the lines are brought to you by our good friends at bodog.com.  If you have problems like Art Schlichter, you can always bet on preseason football if you want.

1.  Oregon +3.5 @ Boise State

Spoiler alert:  Oregon is my favorite in the PAC 10 this season.  They got insanely hot at the end of the 2008 campaign.  Don't get me wrong, Boise State is the same as they have been, but I think Oregon has the edge in this game for some reason.  I'd go with Boise, but I think that the magical "smurfturf" won't help them get it done tonight.

Oregon 35-Boise State 31

$25

2.  Utah State @ Utah -21

Utah won the Sugar Bowl last year, and considering they bested a very good Alabama team, I think that gives them some high hopes coming into the 2009 season.  I can't see Utah State coming within three touch downs of Utah.

Utah

$50

3.  AND NOW FOR MY

loveofweek

Tulsa -14 @ Tulane

Tulsa can score as many points as anyone in the country.  Tulane seems to still be reeling from the Hurricane Katrina season.  I think Tulsa wins by 28 for fun.

Tulsa 45- Tulane 17

$100

4.  Virginia Tech @ Alabama -6.5

While this isn't a true home game for Alabama, it's at the Georgia Dome, in the south where people seem to love Alabama.  Sure, last season was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Virginia Tech and they won the Orange Bowl, but I think that Alabama defense will take care of business.

Alabama 24- Virginia Tech 13

$25

5.  UB +8.5 @ UTEP

I have no idea, but I'll take UB.  The entire offense is new and James Starks is out.  To be fair, the line only bumped one point after the Starks injury was announced so maybe Vegas knows something I don't.

UB 21 - UTEP 24

$5

I think the safer bet on the Oregon vs Boise State game is the over. I think the over/under is currently around 65ish (opened at 60) but no matter who wins that is going to be a crazy high scoring game!

over/under
THRILLHO
i am no gambling man, but i never like an over/under bet early in the season. week 1 is not usually an accurate measurement for teams. none of the teams I saw last night (besides maybe boise state) looked ready to play yet. defense is usually ahead of the offense in terms of readiness also. its easy to say this in hindsight, and i only caught the beginning of the boise state / oregon game, but man NC State and SC looked bad. Is South Carolina really that bad of a team, or are they just not ready?
