So Myles Brand died.  While I'm not a huge fan of his body of work, it's not quite appropriate to mock those who die of pancreatic cancer, right Patrick Swayze?  But to be fair, I think the convoluted state of the NCAA where they are trying to put the focus on "student" instead of "athlete" is still two decades away from being a proper system to monitor academics versus athletics, if ever.  Additionally, the NCAA's favoritism regarding the haves and have nots still pisses me off.

R.I.P. Brand and Swayze, "Roadhouse" and "Donnie Darko" were sweet movies.  "Point Break" was terrible but entertaining.  "Ghost" and "Dirty Dancing" were terrible.  "Dirty Dancing 2" was like Brand's initiatives, annoying and almost irrelevant.

Review

To my detriment, I believed that Dan Hawkins finally put the pieces together for the 2009 season.  After two games and an 0-2 start, including a monster drubbing by a MAC team on national television, I am prepared to eat some crow.  Last season, Cody Hawkins looked as though he was going to come into 2009 as the clear cut starter.  After two games this season, he looks like he has regressed significantly.  He looked so bad that I almost felt bad for this pathetic soul whose teammates should now question if he has the starting QB job because his daddy is the coach.  I don't even think Toledo had a good defensive scheme, they just bum rushed Colorado and the Buffs offensive line must be fucking terrible.

Houston and Oklahoma State covered the over with ease.  I was not shocked but surprised at the last minute win by Houston on the road.  Congrats Cougs.

North Carolina should have won this game going away.  It appears as though the Tarheels will play down to the level of an inferior opponent, and then ruin the spread with a late safety.  Come on Butch Davis, come on.

Well Indiana has won two in a row.  I must say that I am shocked at the Hoosiers good fortune.  Sadly, the Hoosiers have 130 yards a game rushing per game.  That's not terrible until you remember they played Eastern Kentucky and Western Michigan, not exactly the same competition level as the Big Ten.  Plus Indiana employs that ridiculous "pistol" formation, which is designed for a mobile quarterback.  Not a flat-footed, corn-fed Indiana kid who can't move.  Next stop for Indiana, Akron!  Seriously, the Hoosiers will do everything they can to find six wins.

Pitt blew out UB.  While the Bulls had their shots to keep the game within a touchdown, the defense could not get off the field.  That's not a good sign for the revamped defensive unit.

Bets

1.  Tennessee @ Florida -30

I am hoping to get a Kiffin Watch piece out of this game.

Florida 60- Tennessee 10

$25

2.   Boise State -7.5 @ Fresno State

Sure, Fresno went on the road and almost took out Wisconsin, but I have a feeling Wisconsin is going to see some down years very soon.  Boise knows what's at stake.

Boise 35 - Fresno 16

$50

3.  AND NOW FOR MY

loveofweek

Georgia +1 @ Arkansas

I'm sorry; I have to believe Georgia wins by two tds.

Georgia 35- Arkansas 21

$75

4.  Georgia Tech +5.5 @ Miami

I think its going to be a very, very close game.  Miami is getting better, but I don't see the need to give them almost a full touchdown here.  Tech doesn't like to slow down with their option, but can if the mood suits them.  Also, I'm not sure there are many defenses that can adequately prepare for an option attack.

Tech 28-Miami 24

$40

5.  UB Bulls +4 @ UCF

I like the Bulls in this one.  UB doesn't play too poorly on the road, and I think they should win this game.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Bulls fell behind early, because let's face it Zach Maynard I still going to make some mistakes.  But the weather conditions will be idea, and that should help both offenses move up and down the field.  That's why I'd pair this with the over (48).

UB  31-UCF 28

$10
