John Madden announced today that he is hanging up his oversized sportscoat and ending his career as an NFL broadcaster. One can only assume that this retirement came after hearing of a superior Turducken. With too much time spent traveling on his bus from game to game, his true love of stuffing random meats inside other random meats has been neglected.
The timing seems perfect though, with Brett Favre also retiring (for good this time). No longer will we hear John Madden telling the world how he wishes his children were really Brett Favre clones.
This is the new NFL, the NFL without Madden and Favre. It's definitely sad for the long time fan in a nostalgic sense. I remember when Pat Summerall stopped calling games. It was a little odd, his voice was so familiar each Sunday. A lot of people would act annoyed by Madden's over the top rambling and scribbling on the monitor. However, I think it added a nice charm to his broadcasts. The guy was a rambling overweight out of shape slob...... so is 90% of the NFL fanbase! All you haters will miss him.
Perhaps Madden will have time to actually be in his Madden football game again. He hasn't recorded commentary audio for that game in years.
Replacing John in the booth is long time douchebag, Chris Colinsworth. He is probably my least favorite colorman in history, and if you don't think you will miss Madden, you just wait.
